How to win now, with out sacrificing the future.

First the trades I will ship OF Nate McLouth, 1b Adam LaRoche and 2b Freddy Sanchez to the Yankees for Robinson Cano, Phil Hughes, Phil Cokes.  Then I will ship little LaRoche, Andy to the Twins for Delmon Young, closer Matt Capps to the Rays for Edwin Jackson. John Grabow to the Angels for SS Erick Aybar. Jack Wilson to the Tigers for prospects that will not make a difference, but will free up money. Last I will send SP Ian Snell to the Rangers for 1b Chris Davis. Now the FA signings, the team will have about $14mm to spend after arbitration raises, I will give the full amount to Ben Sheets.  That will give me a rotation of Ben Sheets, Paul Maholm, Edwin Jackson, Zach Dukes, Phil Hughes. The pen will be an issue, but it will consist of closer Tyler Yates, set up by Ross Ohlendorf, Sean Burnett will get out lefties, Karstens and Gorzelanny will be swing men, Evan Meek and Craig Hansen will round up the pen.  Line up will have Andrew McCutchen leading off and playing CF, follow by 2B Robinson Cano, C Ryan Doumit, 1b Chris Davis, LF Delmon Young, RF a platoon of Brandon Moss and Steve Pearce, 3B Neil Walker, SS Erick Aybar.  Bench, Pearce/Moss, Nyjer Morgan, Ronny Paulino, Brian Bixler, Doug Mientkiewicz.

How to win now, with out sacrificing the future.

Wow... Pirate Chat in December...

Interesting thoughts on the trades... and I would have to say that all of them were rather well thought out... not sure the Twins would move Delmon Young for Andy LaRoche??? As for the free agent signing, big fan of Sheets, but he always seems to be on the DL... not sure that those dollars are best spent there???

The interesting thing about this management group, they seem to be willing to make some moves... and it would be interesting if they pull the trigger on a few moves during the meetings... it is a shame that the TIgers gave away Jurgens last year, he would have been a good addition to the rotation... maybe they have another nugget in the farms for Wilson as that seems like the first piece to move... the idea of packaging our 3-4-5 hitters (they were at one time) to the Yankees is almost comical, but might prove to help out... really like Nate, but this could be a one time thing for him... as for LaRoche, he was never a 4 hitter or a 5 hitter for that matter... back to the 7 hole on a good line-up will do wonders for him... since Gonzo got hurt, that trade was not that hard to swallow... including Freddy and his bad arm, thus his poor hitting stretch might be another move to clear $$$ and obligation... wish that as a team would could get more than Cano, Hughes and Coke for out heart of the order... would make the Yankees the Pirates East???

This week could be interesting... let's see if we roll the dice in Vegas...
